Anyone who has ever dieted can attest to the ever so powerful hunger signals and cravings for sugars. You try and use discipline and will-power for a while but sooner or later the signals are too strong and you give in. It’s the reason why all diets eventually fail. Your body is trying to tell you something but unfortunately most people misread the signals and just try harder to stick with the restriction. Sure you may lose a few pounds but then you gain it all back and start this vicious cycle over and over again.

What if I were to tell you could break these hunger signals and sugar cravings once and for all? It’s true, the hunger most people experience while dieting is caused by toxic or false hunger. Let me explain as understanding toxic hunger can help you reverse course and end dieting as you know it.

When looking to lose weight most everyone focuses on calories when they should be focusing on nutrients. The hunger and cravings that accompany restrictive diets is a signal of starvation at the cellular level. Your body isn’t telling you necessarily to just give it more calories, it needs nutrients.

Specifically it’s looking for micronutrients that the cells can use for energy and proper function. No amount of low-calorie wraps, Lean Cuisine’s, and processed foods will give your body what it needs. Your body is screaming for the phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that only fruits and vegetables can provide. You simply can’t eat processed foods and expect to fill in the gaps with synthetic, isolated multi-vitamins.

The standard American diet is largely composed of processed and refined foods which make up the root problem behind a person’s inability to lose weight. Over time you build up toxins and free radicals in your body and your digestive tract stops assimilating nutrients.

That’s why you could be eating plenty of calories but you’re still starving at a cellular level. When you stop eating on a restrictive diet you get catabolic as your body focuses on the removal of toxins and repair. The cravings and toxic hunger kicks in and you end up going back to eating the foods that caused all the problems in the first place.

Restricting foods without rejuvenating, detoxifying, and rebuilding your cells and digestive tract will never work. You’ll always succumb to toxic hunger and cravings that will cause you to crash your diet. Toxic hunger is noticeable by strong cravings and a diminished sense of taste. True hunger is felt in the mouth and throat while having a heightened sense of taste.

The secret to removing false hunger and cravings is to follow a Primal Blueprint diet high in fruits and vegetables. Lean proteins, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats will also be included. Yes, you’ll go through an uncomfortable phase in the beginning as your body detoxifies, typically 7-10 days, but as your cells and digestive tract begin to heal the false hunger and cravings subside. It may take you a little longer but stick with it as this is the only way to truly end dieting as you know it.
